LIBEBOX / CLOUD STORAGE
Cloud storage for freelance client files
Proton Drive, pCloud or Sync? Start with your sharing needs, encryption requirements and total cost.
Tested and updated by Libebox. Last reviewed: 26 September 2026. We reviewed official documentation and completed a limited hands-on sharing test.
Provider claims are separated from our own limited hands-on observations. See how Libebox evaluates tools and updates comparisons.
Quick decision
Choose the starting point that matches your main priority. Each option still needs checking against your devices, client workflow and total cost.
Proton Drive
Start here when private everyday storage is your main requirement.
- End-to-end encryption documented for files and file names
- Password and expiry controls for shared links
Main check: device support, storage allowance and collaboration fit.
Check Proton Drive plans →Direct provider link. No Libebox commission currently.
pCloud
Compare recurring subscriptions with Lifetime payment options.
- Multiple payment models
- Optional client-side encryption through a separate Crypto folder
Main check: encryption cost, Crypto scope, sharing limits and Lifetime terms.
See pCloud plans and pricing →Affiliate link — you pay the same price.
Sync
Consider this when client access and plan-specific controls drive the decision.
- Encrypted storage and shared folders
- Business sharing features depend on the selected plan
Main check: recipient access, permissions and minimum seat requirements.
Check Sync plans →Direct provider link. No Libebox commission currently.
1. Proton Drive: privacy-focused everyday storage
Proton documents end-to-end encryption and sharing links with password and expiry controls. It is a sensible shortlist candidate when private file storage is more important than a large ecosystem of integrations.
Before you choose: try your everyday devices, upload a representative project folder and check how a client opens the shared link. We have not measured transfer speed or tested recipient usability.
2. pCloud: compare payment models carefully
pCloud offers subscriptions and Lifetime plans. Its client-side encryption feature uses a separate Crypto folder; do not assume every stored or shared file receives the same encryption treatment.
Before you choose: include the cost of any required encryption option in your budget. Check which Crypto actions and sharing options your intended workflow supports. Lifetime is a contractual offer, not a guarantee that a service will exist forever.
3. Sync: check the client-sharing plan
Sync documents encrypted storage, shared folders and client-facing sharing features. Access controls and other business features depend on the plan.
Before you choose: check recipient access, download permissions and branding on the exact plan you intend to buy. The Teams plans reviewed require three users, so compare the whole account cost, not just the advertised per-user amount.
Before adding another subscription
- List your devices, current storage use and largest files.
- Decide whether clients need to view, download, edit or upload.
- Check the complete bill: seats, storage, encryption extras, taxes and renewal terms.
- Try a non-sensitive sample folder and a recipient link before moving client work.
- Keep a separate recovery copy. Synchronisation alone is not your entire backup plan.
Your existing storage may already meet your needs. Upgrade only when a specific limitation justifies the cost.
Hands-on sharing test: what we checked
Completed: 26 September 2026.
- Proton Drive: uploaded a neutral folder with three .txt files, created a public link, then opened and downloaded a file without a Proton account.
- pCloud: uploaded the same neutral folder, created a public link, then opened the folder and downloaded it without a pCloud account.
- Sync: uploaded a non-sensitive test folder, created a public link, then opened and downloaded a file without a Sync account.
Not tested: transfer speeds, encryption implementation, sync reliability, recovery, support or collaboration workflows. Treat this as a basic client-sharing workflow test, not a full product benchmark.
How this comparison was prepared
We reviewed the official product and pricing pages linked above. On 26 September 2026, we also completed a limited hands-on sharing test: upload a neutral sample folder, create a public link, open it without an account and download a file. pCloud and Proton Drive used the same folder with three .txt files. Sync used four non-sensitive items, including system and text-clipping files, so we do not compare file preview or speed across services. We did not test encryption implementation, transfer speed, sync conflicts, recovery or support. Prices vary by billing period, location and promotions, so check the provider’s current checkout before purchasing.
